Last Sunday I went skating in Greenville and came back through Greer to check out Fiats and Alfa Romeos. They had one new Fiat 124 which is still in very limited supply. This car is a brother to the Mazda Miata and was a joint venture of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Mazda Motor Corporation. The body is very much like a Miata but the running gear is Fiat. They had one Alfa Romeo 4C BaseSpider ($78,695 w/year end discount @ $69,888) in white. In the photo you can see the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Classica out front and in the showroom you can barely see the white Alfa.
As I was leaving a young couple in a minivan were eyeballing the same cars I eyeballed. They had two kids running around excited about everything. One of the kids was around 9-10 and he was into exotic cars. His dad told me that as they passed the dealership, this boy yelled out that there was an Alfa Romeo sign at the Fiat dealer. His dad told the boy that there were no Alfa dealers anywhere around. The kid insisted. The dad turned around and by golly the sign was there and an Alfa was there too. Then the dad told me that his father and he and the young boy were going to take a day of this year's vacation to go to a large city where they would go to the Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston-Martin, etc. dealerships.
Just as all of us were about to leave, I pointed to the kid and said, “A long, long time ago, I was that kid. You are doing a great thing for him. He will always remember that vacation with his father and grandfather as well as what the cars were that he saw on that trip.” ~cy
